Sculpture Symposia China
I have been selected to participate in the 12th international Sculpture Symposium at Changchun, Jilin Province, China, July–September 2011. Some 35 sculptors from all over the world have 6 weeks to create sculptures in marble, granite and bronze for the World Sculpture Park in Changchun. The selection committee has requested that I carve my sculpture ‘Cloudstone’, 3 metres high in marble. |

Sculpture Symposia Queensland
In 2008 I participated in the Southern Downs Sculpture Symposia, Warwick, Qld. The theme for the symposium was “stories of the Condamine”. The Condamine river flows through the town of Warwick. Working on a ½ ton block of local sandstone for 8 days I carved ‘River Song’, an abstract expression of the energy that flows in the waters of the river. This work sold at auction.
In 2010 I again participated in the Southern Downs Sculpture Symposia. Spring was in the air and Spring was the theme of the symposium. Participating sculptors worked in a park in the centre of Warwick, the creative activity attracting many visitors including groups of school children. While I received a comment that my abstract sculpture was like the cochlea of the middle ear, I prefer the title, ‘The Girl with the Pearl Ear ring’. This work sold at auction. |

ANCA Gallery Convergence
This event brought together my major sculptural works in stone, wood and metal, with Boag, a performance poet. The sculptural works were displayed in the form of a mandala. This together with Boag’s Himalayan bowl songs created a resonance between the sculpture and those viewing the sculpture. |
Rejuvenation
Together with my friend, collaborator and performance poet Stuart Boag, we presented this show ‘Rejuvenation’. We share a common interest in Buddhist philosophy and iconography which informs our work. This period of professional development comes at an important time for both of us as our work matures. My abstract sculptures take the form of objects of meditation.
The works in stone are thematically linked and flow, as if following a stream of consciousness. They provide a focal point where the mind can rest. Stuart, through his poetry and performance art, hints at experiences that may be encountered in the presence of the sculptures. His words evoke memories, emotions and the possibility of living in the eternal present. Playing ancient Himalayan singing bowls and bells he conjures up mythic landscapes in which the sculptures can speak.
